Vintage Christmas Post Cards

They just don't make them like this anymore.
I wonder why that is.

Hi Audrey! These are beautiful. There is something in the color (the inks?) - whatever it is, it speaks to the heart. They are charming! :) Pam

PS I still don't have my cards done!!!!

Okay, here is the reason.
These were all printed with a drum that had each color etched on a thin copper plate. Some of the colors are toxic sunstances now to create for mass use, though artists can still buy them and poison ourselves...hmmm.....
Anyway, the cost of producing each individual plate became astronomical, newer printing methods were developed (four color seperation) and alas, the old brilliant color postcards were gone.
This is way more info than you wanted...wasn't it? That was a rhetorical question, right? <:)

XXOO!!

Anne, you are too funny. Glad to have the information.
It's a shame to see beautiful items from long ago disappearing. You would think in this day and age, (progress being what it is), that things like these post cards could be made somehow. The reproductions are nice, but just not the same.
We all are breathing, drinking, or eating poison in some form everyday.... what harm could a little ink do? LOL!
Seriously, thanks, Anne.

Audrey, the images are beautiful. I love looking at the old cards. I ran across some in my mother's things that she saved from the 50's
They are great also.
