Easter Sunday

The flowers in front of the altar in church this morning were gorgeous.  The service was beautiful.  Thank you, Father McKay.
I took this from the church parking lot this morning.  Overcast, but an uplifting lovely Easter Day!!

March Full Moon

We have a FULL MOON once again and she is a beauty!!  I took this photo at 10:00 PM tonight from my front yard.
There are 9 names for the full moon this month:
WORM MOON:  The ground has thawed and the earthworms are back out.
WINDY MOON:  March is the windiest month of the year.
SAP MOON:  The sap is flowing so the tapping of the trees is going on.
SUGAR MOON:  The full moon closest to the first day of spring is called the sugar moon to celebrate the making of maple sugar.
CRUST MOON:  This comes more from the northern states and mountain areas.  The snow begins to melt during the daytime and refreezes at night so it gets crusted over.
CROW MOON:  The crows sing out about the end of winter.
LENTEN MOON:  In many years Lent occurs during all of March.  Not this year.
EGG MOON:  The full moon closest to Easter is called the egg moon.
CHASTE MOON:  New life is emerging from the earth this time of year.  March is the month of purity.
I caught this robin in action this morning.  It truly is the Worm Moon.

Redbuds

This is a portion of the redbuds that stretch quite a way across the street.  I was outside in the driveway all afternoon working on getting consignment items ready.  It was a gorgeous Spring day and I love seeing the redbuds in bloom.

Spring Equinox

Happy first day of Spring!!  Along with the blooming of flowers, for many this is also a time of spiritual renewal.  The Spring Equinox is one of the four seasonal astronomical events that impacts earth.  The other three are Summer Solstice, Autumnal Equinox and Winter Solstice.
Whether you are experiencing a beautiful warm day, or a chilly damp day, be thankful for this first day of Spring ~ it is the beginning of beautiful things to come!

Flowers Soon

I aggravated already sore back muscles getting the front flower bed ready for planting yesterday.  The empty pots look sad without flowers growing in them.  Soon!!!

My hyacinth is in bloom.  It's definitely a "pink" kind of week.

A Favorite

I found this little beauty at an estate sale this weekend.  She is very detailed right down to the roses on the base.  This Blessed Mother is a favorite in my collection.  I don't often see unique statues of Mary, but when I do they come home with me.

Spring Fever

Yesterday was the MOST beautiful day.  It was warm, sunny, and you could feel Spring in the air.  Buds are appearing everywhere overnight.  I think we ALL love Spring.  It gives us hope for renewal in all things.  It is refreshing to see life appear before our eyes.  Today, it rained all day, but even that could not ruin my enthusiasm for Spring's arrival.  I am SO eager to work in the flower beds ~ preparing them for flowers that will be enjoyed all summer long.  I saw many beautiful trees in bloom, but I only photographed this one ~ I thought it would be a nice reminder of things to come.

EVERY WOMAN'S LIFE Photo Exhibit Opening Reception

Our Opening Reception for the photo exhibit last night was a fun night attended by many.  It was exciting to be involved.  My dear friend, Tricia Scott, who initiated this event, wore herself out preparing this for months.  Beth Deel, who (among other things) runs the Aurora Gallery, went above and beyond her duties to help make this exhibit happen.  Sponsors and donations played a big part and will help EVERY WOMAN'S LIFE in some small way.  There was music, food, Kumbacha Tea, photo sales, and the sound of laughter filled the Gallery.

 Yum!!
Great music by Jazz singer Shawn Spencer, with Tom Floyd!

Photo Exhibit

"90 Years of Labor and Love"
"Great-Grandmother Joy"

These are the two photographs I've entered in the photo exhibit at Aurora Gallery in downtown Roanoke.  The exhibit, titled: Every Woman's Journey: Victories and Reflections of Everyday Life, will hang during the month of March.  It is an exhibition and ensemble of photos in 8"x8" format submitted by local photographers. Opening reception is Friday, March 4th.  The money from sales will be given to EWL (Every Woman's Life) ~ Founded in 1998, EWL is a Virginia Department of Health program that helps uninsured, low income women gain access to free breast and cervical cancer screening services.
