Throwback Thursday

June, 1952 ~ I think most children go through the "tent" phase. Apparently, we did.  I'm thinking this was probably Patrick's tent and he was nice enough to let me check it out before he and one of his buddies had their secret meeting in it.  I was four ~ this had to be an exciting event for me.

Azalea Hedge

Driving through the Wasena area of Roanoke the other night, I spotted this gorgeous hedge of Azaleas.  I've never seen Azalea bushes used in this way.  It made a beautiful privacy fence in the front of this house.

A Perfect Heart

I look forward to my Bleeding Heart plant every Spring.  Mom had Bleeding Heart plants in the yard when I was growing up and they always fascinated me.  Mine is in the front flower bed where I can see it from my window.  I look at it a lot, enjoying its beauty.  How perfect ~ this one simple flower.

Throwback Thursday

July, 1996 ~ Chicago
Terry and I in the Windy City.  I love Chicago and never minded going there on 3-day buying trips.  Walking through the Merchandise Mart for several days was grueling, but the Chicago night life always made it worthwhile.

Feeling Grateful

I've been battling a bad cold since Tuesday,  Even though that seems to be coming to an end, my stomach has been upset for the last couple of days.  Not sure what that's all about.  This afternoon, I had to venture out to pick up a couple of prescriptions and this post is about my drive back home.
After a couple of gorgeous days, today it is raining.  However, because of this rain, everything green is a very deep bright green.  I couldn't help but notice all the little buds of green coming out on all the trees and bushes.  The azalea bushes are flowering and there are still some tulips that haven't wilted and lost their petals.  I was suddenly amazed at all the little things that are happening all around me during this season of Spring.
I drove slowly as I passed the wooded area lining the lane to my home.  I noticed the water bubbling in the stream alongside the road, a groundhog scurrying into his hole, a bunny running very fast across the road, and the rain falling softly making everything glisten with brightness.
I was amazed and happy.  I took a moment and thanked God for all the things He created for our enjoyment.  Just think of each tiny little thing that grows from the earth, the beautiful trees, the flowers, the bushes, the mushrooms and fungi, and even the weeds.  I can't possibly mention each thing.  And then there are the many birds and all the fish in the sea, and the animals on the earth.  He created all these things for US!  I guess the only way I could think to thank Him today was to write this blog post.
I do notice the earth's beauty that surrounds me every day, but I plan to be even more observant of these things.  It will be my way of telling Him how much I appreciate these gifts.  We take them for granted because they are there.  We need to notice them, care for them, and appreciate them.

Birdbath Fun

Perfect Timing.  In my studio ~ just happened to look out the window and found these two "carrying on".  Not sure if the birdbath is for their enjoyment, or mine.

We took Casey out of school every year in September and off we went to Myrtle Beach for a week. I have many good memories of fun times on the Beach, on the Strip, on the Boardwalk, and wonderful seafood in many good restaurants.

Ode to Spring

I finally finished one of the paintings I started back in March ~ "Ode to Spring".  I will be taking it to the EARTH DAY FESTIVAL in Wasena Park on April 25th where I will be sharing a table with Tricia Scott and Lisa Plummer.  I am working on several small pieces to take that day.

Today is Maria's Birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Maria !!
Wishing you, my first born niece, a day filled with many things you love ~ horses, dogs, friends, pizza, and laughter.  Top that off with blessings from above, good health, and another year that will bring you happiness and surprises!

Throwback Thursday

June 27, 1989 ~ We were at a local spot in Ohio (The Pub) celebrating Fisho's birthday.  Sunglasses?  Maybe eye protection from all the smoke?  Probably not ~ just having fun with our friends.  I'm so grateful we no longer have to deal with smoke in restaurants!

Redbud Trees

I look forward to the blooming of the Redbud Trees every year in the Spring.  Over the last couple of days, a sea of lavender has appeared.  It is so beautiful driving along the interstate - the Redbuds are right next to the road and they stretch along for miles.  Many homes and business properties have Redbuds planted in this area, as well.

This is across the street from my house.  We are fortunate to have Redbuds to look at even when we are home.
Just a few Redbuds grace our immediate yard.  Small, but beautiful!  I took many Redbud photos today, but I think this selection is enough to give you the idea.
