Question

I have a question. This is something I've been wondering about for some time. What exactly is response protocol when someone has left a comment on your blog?

If I see a comment on my blog, a lot of times I will respond to that comment by leaving a comment of my own directly under the visitor's comment on the post. I have noticed that several people do this. However, not being sure that people actually return to that particular post, I will sometimes go to their blog and leave the comment there just to be sure they see my response to them. Obviously, this is time consuming as I am leaving a similar response twice to the same person.

What are your thoughts? Am I being too concerned with this? Once in a while, someone will say something that I really want to thank them for or I just WANT to respond. I have gotten in the habit of returning to a person's blog to see if they have responded to my comment. Does everyone do this? I am curious as to how everyone deals with this. Comments are something we all look forward to. My main concern is if someone asks a question in a comment or something does need responded to, I sure don't want to hurt anyone's feelings and have them think that I've ignored them.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Anne Huskey-Lockard said...: Audrey, I'm not sure. I try and *back check* blogs when I have time (which doesn't always work) and sometimes I just try and make sure I visit their blog and comment. You know I'm a blabbermouth and almost always reply to comments, but if it is something I think is REALLY important, I will just e-mail the person if I can.
I think we all know there are only so many hours in the day......
It's a tough call; I guess that's why I sort of have the "Hello" in the sidebar, that says sometimes things get crazy and I can't always answer.
At least I think that's what I wrote.....
Hopefully someone else can give you more concise advise!

I would have to say from what I am seeing, you are by far the Queen of responding to comments. I mean that in the best possible way. Your Blog is exceptional ~ you have a lot of followers and a lot of comments to respond to. Somehow, you manage to do that even with all you have on your plate.

Yes, this is a tricky question and I often think about it myself. I normally add a comment to the other persons blogspot instead of my own, as they may not come back to read it.
