Ducks in the Pond

Mallard Hen

After church on Christmas Day, I stopped at the pond we have in the center of town. It had snowed and there weren't any people around, so I thought I would take some photos. I was very surprised to see so many different kinds of ducks. Usually, when I stop there, I only see Mallard Ducks, Peking Ducks, and Gulls. There were some unusual and very pretty ducks there yesterday. I looked them up and there were a couple I couldn't identify. Isn't the Male Wood Duck a beauty? Be sure to click on the photos to enlarge and see them up close.

Enjoy!

Hey Audrey, I love your photos! I hope you've had a good Christmas.
The gull is a Ring-billed Gull, I saw one of these in London several years ago (they are quite rare on this side of the Atlantic, but a few turn up each year and this one felt happy enough to stay for several years!).

Anyway, all the best and have a great New Year!

Good Morning. The pictures are wonderful and that male wood duck is gorgeous. I believe the one you have labeled mottled duck is a female Mallard. It looks just like the one we had as a pet that raised from an egg.

Thank you, Marlene and Joe, for your input. I've made the corrections on my post. It seems the Mallard Hen and the Mottled Duck are very close in looks. After reading about them and checking the slight differences, you're right, Marlene. This one is a Mallard Hen.

My dearest Audrey,

First of all, I want to thank you for your visits and kind comments on my blog. I have been keeping to myself lately. I am so exhausted and tired and I don't want to just drop by and say some one line token comment. Work is taing most of my time. I have a project implementation the first week of January and I am also on call on January 1st!!!

Anyway, I appreciate your visits and I love reading your comments. Thank you ever so much for all your visits and well wishes this year. It's been a pleasure getting to know you. When I am more alert, I shall stop by again and perhaps peruse your blog.

These photographs of the ducks are magnificent.

I still have to start the tree drawing but thinking of the winter storm up there, gives me the shivers! I actually feel cold just thinking of the snowstorm yesterday.

Take care, be safe.

Have a wonderful, blessed, prosperous and prolific new year! Tsup!

Love your duck photos. We have domestic ducks in our yard whose eggs we happily eat. Our male is a rescue and he is crested too! Thanks for visiting and entering the giveaway. xox Corrine
