WILSON HUGHES gallery & studios

Last night we went to Art By Night in downtown Roanoke. The hilight of my evening was going to the WILSON HUGHES gallery & studios to attend the opening of Carte Postale de la France, an exhibition and sale by Suzun Hughes.

Suzun created these 5" x 8" post cards during her recent artist residency in France. Inspired by the less traveled scenes of life in Paris, Suzun uses the traditional medium of the souvenir post card to create high quality original prints on archival paper suitable for framing.

The exhibit consisted of many fascinating and beautiful post cards that I would have been happy to own. I purchased the four below and hope to return to the gallery at some point to choose a few more. Suzun spent a good part of the evening talking about the subject matter of the photographs and giving us pertinent information about them.

The WILSON HUGHES gallery & studios is a contemporary art gallery featuring metal sculpture and furniture from the on-site studio of John Wilson (www.studio9i.com) and paintings and photographs from the on-site studio of Suzun Hughes (www.suzun.com).

Art By Night is held the first Friday night of each month. Art By Night showcases Roanoke's thriving arts community, featuring diverse galleries and artists' studios in the downtown area. There are openings, demonstrations, refreshments, live music and face-to-face interactions with the local artists. This free event brings the community together and is an opportunity to support and purchase the artwork of Roanoke's amazing talent.

So glad to hear that you participated in an event related to things which you love dearly in the art world once more. Your mind must be so full of ideas that one day it is just going to release itself into a spectacular exhibit of glorious talent. Hopefully I will be one of the first to view it! Your sister

I miss having art galleries nearby. It is such an energy booster to go see art, and talk to artists. Her postcards are beautiful. Of course, I love the one with the skull! :)) xox Pam
