Fungus

I took these photos in October. I spotted this fungus growing at the base of a large tree on the lane leading out of the cul-de-sac I live on. Very strange looking organism, but fascinating and actually kind of pretty.

I thought about these photos today because I happened across a lot of talk about fungus on Facebook and Blogs. So, these photos came to mind and I thought I would post them and dedicate them to my
fungus
fascinated friends:

it is beautiful and colorful, it reminds me of a funnel cake they serve at festivals.

Hi Audrey,
Oh yeah, this fungus is kind of unusual and quite pretty!

Wow, how pretty does your shop look all done up with the Christmas theme!
I wish I could visit in real life!
Hugs,
Anna

I am the BIG FLUFFY ONE!!!! :D
I think that may be in the edible family; if that is one that occurs in the late summer/fall. Up here they have the colloquial name of *chicken* something or other---I have never tried it but supposedly they taste like chicken.
I love pictures of all mushroom, fungi and toadstools.....growing up walking the woods I could spot them a mile away.
Fond memories!
Even if I am the big ruffly one! LOL!!!

I was wondering if I missed the memo to blog about fungi. LOL! This one is gorgeous! So frilly and dainty. We have one here that looks like a brain, I am not kidding! I wonder if I have a picture of it... :) xoxo! Pam

I believe these are called Laetiporus sulphuraeus or Chicken of the woods.

There is a Yellow Brain Fungus also called Tremella mesenterica but it looks like this:

Thank you for sharing, Audrey.
