"You must have a room, or a certain hour or so a day, where you don't know what was in the newspapers that morning... a place where you can simply experience and bring forth what you are and what you might be."

For me, this would be my studio. I go in and out of that room many times a day, but MY time, by own personal alone time in there is always late at night. Once everyone is settled for the night ~ the dinner dishes are done ~ Mom is down for the night ~ Terry is in bed ~ Jake is curled up, quiet and content ~ I retreat to my studio. I post to my blog, read blogs, catch up on emails, paint, create, plan, and dream. It is true. Most of the time, once I'm in there and I know there is nothing else I must do for the day, I forget the cares of life, the time, the pain, the worries... I get lost in whatever it is I decide to do for the hour or so before my body tells me it needs rest. Then, once I'm settled in bed for the night, I pick up my sketchbook that has a permanent residence on my nightstand and I draw. Every night! Seldom do I go to sleep without working in that book for a short while. This is where the last bits of stress and tension that has built up throughout the day leaves me.

So beautifully put!
I I know that feeling. I get it when I put on some music and handsew, I am in my little happy place. :) xox Pam
Its funny, I posted something on FB today that carried a similar sentiment. Must be something going around. I'm glad you have your studio to retreat to, and your sketchbook as a final tension release. I don't know what I'd do without my studio to get away to. I prefer to read at night in bed as my final tension release. Quiets my mind.
yes, that room of one's own where one can be silly, naughty or nice, creative, messy, tidy, busy or just plain lazy. i have one too and i count my blssings for it.
i want so much to see what you draw, what you make. maybe you have another blg for that? i'll go peeking.
sounds like the perfect end to your days. I love my alone time too, and tend to get stressed without it. Luckily I get plenty :-)
Sketching before bed is a great habit too! I used to love reading in bed, but now I need reading glasses to do so :-(
