Sunset Thrush

Perhaps he was not praying
The sunset thrush I heard
Perhaps he was not saying
His thanks;
Perhaps a bird in leafy dimness
Swaying
Can have no thought of prayer;
But my heart is praying
Because I heard him there.

~Jane Merchant

I realize this is not a Sunset Thrush, but I wanted to post one of
my bird photos with this wonderful poem. It is uplifting to hear
any bird sing.
I must thank my sister, Patty, for sending this poem to me. I
am now sharing it with all of you.

The wonderful thing as Spring approaches is the abundance of birdsong. Yes, we have some in the winter, but suddenly the chorus is filled again!!!
Lovely!

Lovely poem, thanks for sharing. I always look forward to the Swainson's Thrush arrival, I think their song is my favorite summer song, with the winter wren being my favorite year round. We always call the thrushes the "twirly birds" because when I first heard them sing, didn't know what they were but the way their song seems to spiral up as though they were spinning around...well, you get the picture. Don't you?;-)

My favorite little bird. Are a ton of them outside my studio window as I write this. Nice photo.

Audrey - this morning I took my tea outside (before everyone was up). There was a definite chill in the air, but one beautiful red cardinal sat on my forsythia, singing his little heart out. He knows spring is here. :) Beautiful poem! xox Pam
