Roanoke River in March

I wanted to visit the Roanoke River when it was encased with snow and ice. I didn't get the chance. Yesterday, I made time to walk its banks. I found an angry river.

roanoke river in march
the dark
swirling
angry water
dressed in brown
dry foliage
eager to be warmed
by a stronger sun
rushes
between its banks
to
somewhere

I especially love the last two images. We usually have heavy March rains and floods-so far it is sunny and nice but I know rain is looming out there :-)

Beautiful....I love seeing rivers that run rapidly, coursing over rocks and limbs. Whirlpools, quirky twists....it let's a person have an isea of the power of water.
Wonderful shots!

Ooooh I am afraid of rivers and angry rivers especially. At least this one has clear waters, ours had black water that was so silent but you know it will swallow you and suck you into the abyss! We had deep rivers in my childhood and after the typhoon or the monsoon they were so angry very angry they washed away towns. Damn rivers. Damn deforestation!

CHOP DOWN THE TREE!!!??? A birch tree no less??? We have an idiot neighbor (Excuse the expression) who chopped down the giant magnolia because he wanted decorative bushes and rocks.

My mother was a tree planter. She filled the yard of our house with trees. I did a drawing of my teenage home. Also a painting and there was no house just a door because the trees covered it. Her trees still live. She passed away in 2002.

Thank you for the good luck wishes. I hope it will be quiet. I am bringing lots of snacks and I need to bring a blanket. It gets cold at night in my office. Have a lovely week Audrey.

Glorious photos Audrey, I love walking the banks of rivers or just sitting still by them and listing to the water rush by. I can almost hear the Roanoke from those photos.

Just like Marlene, I love the sound of the water. Whether it is a rushing river or trickling fountain, there is something so soul thrilling about it. Thanks for another fantabulous post. ((((hugs)))))until next time

Very dramatic photos, Audrey. I thought the 3rd picture showed some little woody people in a romantic clutch, there on the river bank. Shows how my mind works;-)

Oh, Jan, I saw that too!! I almost pointed it out on my post but I thought people would think I'd flipped out. It jumped right out at me as soon as I looked at the photo. Thanks for seeing it, too!! Creative minds ~ right?

Oh I read the woody people and I thought I saw that earlier but did not have the courage to say it. Audrey I came back because I wanted to tell you that your 1954 photo is so cute!!! Look at the hat! You rock!

That is what we looked at today also only it was the Apple River, and not quite such power and more snow left. It is nice to hear the water and see the life of the river. I also see a bit of yellow on the Goldfinch which is a true sign. Thanks for the tour of your river I could feel it rushing.

Lovely pictures, Audrey! I get a little nervous around fast water, but it is beautiful, isn't it? We've had such nice weather today - I hope you have, too! xo Pam
