The Multi-Talents Of An Old Friend

I hit the jackpot this week connecting with old friends! John and I went to high school and college together. I haven't seen him since those college days. Chatting with him on Facebook, I find he is still the same warm, humorous guy he was back in the day. Although, I would have to say that I see a very serious man in his writing and paintings.
I knew he was an artist - I would sometimes see him in the halls of the art building. However, I didn't know he had made a career of painting and writing. John has been blessed with many facets of talent. We plan to meet for lunch on my next visit to Ohio. I am eager to see him and hear the story behind the man. Please take a look at his website to see some of his outstanding work.

The painting: by John Sokol
Farewell on the Lethe, tar, varnish & enamels on canvas, 46" X 54", Private Collection

Audrey, it's so much fun connecting with old friends. Monday night, I met with a friend from college who I haven't seen since 1983. We had a great time remembering things from 25 yrs. ago, but I've gotta warn you - the next day you're going to feel so old....a quarter of a century older.

Love the painting of the canoe on John's book. It reminds me of a canoe my father had, it was painted red and varnished inside. This blogging is bringing the strangest memories back. The silkscreen painting of Barack Obama is brilliant too.
