Houston Flood

My heart is swollen.  One minute I am in tears seeing the agony in Houston, and the next minute I am in tears with happiness seeing the rescues ~ cattle, dogs, cats, horses, babies, handicapped people, little old ladies with fear in their eyes, families clinging to each other walking through the deep dirty water.  In spite of the horror of it all, these people are helping one another in any way they can.  This is what life is all about ~ loving and helping your neighbor.

It was an uplifting sight to see the lined traffic of vehicles hauling their boats en route to flooded areas ready to help in any way they could.  On my way to downtown Roanoke this evening, I was on I-81 and there was a convoy of New York emergency vehicles (fire trucks, rescue vehicles, ambulances, etc.) heading south and I knew they were on their way to Texas/Louisiana.

The police, firefighters, city employees, national guard, coast guard, marines, many agencies, ordinary citizens, and others I failed to mention, are working nonstop to save lives and help take people to shelters and safety.

I hope the number of deaths will be low.  I pray that time will heal the heartbreaking destruction that Harvey has caused.  I hope that all the people who have made monetary contributions or donated items, will be blessed.  I hope God rewards the restaurant owners and employees who kept their restaurants open and gave food and drink to those in need.  Even Anheuser-Busch starting canning water to distribute to all in need.  I truly hope we are all paying close attention to what is happening to all these people and keeping that in mind when we want to whine about some little inconvenience.

I hope we can learn from this and love one another.  Please let us stop the HATE!!

Tuesday Evening

I've not been downtown Roanoke in months mostly because of my knee situation and I have been battling a cold/cough for two weeks now, so this evening was a real treat.  Met good friend Tricia for dinner at Alejandro's and then went next door to the new ALTUS ARTISAN CHOCOLATE LOUNGE where we enjoyed very good hot chocolate.
We had much catching up to do.  Time spent with a good friend can be SO uplifting ~ I think it was good for both of us.

Altus Chocolate creates phenomenal artisan chocolate starting with high grade cacao beans carefully imported, roasted, and ground right in the store!

53 Years Ago Today

My cousin, Will, reminded me that 53 years ago today, 8-26-64, my brother Patrick, and our cousins, Will and Roy, joined the U.S.Air Force and shipped out to Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, for basic training.
Patrick and Will ended up in the Philippines together and took care of each other through some rough times.  I am grateful that Will and Roy are still here to remember those days.  We all miss Patrick SO much.

Living the Creative Life

Our Living the Creative Life group met this evening at Grace's Pizza in Grandin Village.  We enjoyed pizza and sharing our art made with the theme "FLIGHT".  When I hear the word "flight", my son is the first thing I think of since he became a pilot just a few years ago.  With that in mind, and my fear of flying, I have Casey to thank for easing my fears and flying me on several occasions.  With him in control, I felt safe: thus, my mixed media piece, with his hands holding the plane and keeping me safe.
Next, we have Therry Neilsen-Steinhardt's mixed media piece titled "Fall of Icarus".  Icarus had wings and flew too close to the sun, burning them, which caused him to fall into the sea.
And then, Wally Neilsen's drawing/painting titled "In Flight".  This painting is all about reflection from above.  Put yourself in the crow's place and what do you see?
It is SO much fun to get together, enjoy the company of other artists, and see how they interpret the theme for the month!
Our next gathering will be at Mamma Maria's Italian Restaurant in Salem on Wednesday, September 27th at 6:00.  Our theme for that gathering is "BIRDS".
Do a painting! Join us! You'll have fun!

Awesome

Eclipse 2017 Photo by Dan Asmussen.  Awesome!!

Under the Weather

Sky views throughout this evening.  I have been under the weather with a really bad cold/cough since Thursday, so I wasn't prepared to watch the eclipse.  I watched it on TV.  But I managed to enjoy the sky in all its glory this evening.
This morning, the Dr. told me this cold/cough is going around and many have it.  It's a 7-10 day process.  I'm on day 5 so I hope I'm in the 7 day category.  I can't remember coughing SO much and all these sleepless nights are the pits!

Handmade Tag Book

I purchased this little handmade tag book from one of my favorite people, Constanza Berger Silva.  It arrived today and it is even more beautiful and special than I imagined.
I have posted the front and back cover and some of my favorite inside pages.  It is SO lovely.
Your art is inspirational, soft, and warm.  Your girls always have the sweetest faces.  I am SO very happy to have this book.
♥ to you, Constanza.

Strange Clouds

And now these weird clouds are right where the rainbow was, and it's thundering again.  Please rain!

Rain and Rainbows

We need rain so I was happy to see the black clouds moving in, and hearing the thunder brought some hope.  So, it finally rained for 5 MINUTES and it brought this beautiful rainbow with it.  But the ground is still dry!!

LARGE Bird

I just walked in and looked out my studio window ~ look who is drinking from the birdbath!

Jewelry

I must be a glutton for punishment.  I just spent a good part of the day in Buy the Season setting up jewelry in my newly rented glass shelves unit.  I have collected a lot of vintage pieces over the years and some sterling pieces, too.  I  have loved them, but now it is time to let others enjoy.  Wish me good sales!!

Caught in the act yesterday ~ just a few more feet to the garden.  I love you, but you can't eat my tomatoes!

Magical Moment

This dragonfly followed me into the car and settled on the door. A magical moment.

A Sweet Gift

Thank you, Tammy.  Your small gift warmed my heart, knowing that you were thinking of me.

Threat of more rain this morning.

Fog

Light rain off and on all day.  Fog on the mountains.  I appreciate the days when the sun is not beating down on us.  Reminds me of my life in Ohio.
