This is how I feel today! Had my appointment with the surgeon this morning ~ Dr. Brent Johnson. I liked him a lot. He examined my knee and went over Xrays and MRI results in detail with me. NO SURGERY!!!! The meniscus tear is very small. The pain is being caused by arthritis and a little deterioration of the cartilage between the bones that meet at the knee joint. He gave me a steroid injection and prescribed physical therapy for 4 weeks. He said that surgery would help only a little, but would not solve the problem. If I should need another injection in 4-6 months, I just need to call. I am SO happy that there will be NO surgery.

I think you won't need steroid injections. Time will heal the tear. You just need patience. Maybe you have some pounds to shed. Do that! It helps . I know it from experience, that weightloss solves a lot of problems including those of knees and legs.
