Throwback Thursday
Throwback Thursday ~ August 25, 1984
Jim and I were in a mixed golf league the summer of 1984 with old friend Gregg Schorsten, his wife Sharon, and others. This was our end of season party. There was a pool available and I remember Gregg being one of the brave ones who actually went in. I also remember having tons of fun every Friday night with this group. Laughter is a good thing to remember.

Rose of Sharon
We planted 2 little Rose of Sharon bushes when we built our home in 2006. They have grown well over the years and they give us so much beauty. I thought I better take photos and post these today before the flowers are done.
The lilac colored one is on the other side of this rose colored one and just as big.
I would have to walk down our backyard hill to get a photo of them side by side. With these knees hurting like they are, that is not going to happen today.

Raven
"Did I ever tell you a story?"
12"x12" Encaustic painting by Lora Murphy arrived from Ireland this morning! I love it.
It arrived faster than a letter mailed in the USA. Amazing!

Outside My Kitchen Window
View from my kitchen window on this lovely Sunday!
In the 2nd photo you can partially see Mom’s door to her apartment.
She had an amazing view of Mason’s Knob and Sugarloaf Mountain. She spent every minute she could outside. Mr. Magic spared no expense when we built the apartment for her. She deserved it, loved it, and enjoyed her life here in Virginia for 7 years before she left us in 2013 at the age of 96.
I smile just about every time I look down at that little patio, remembering her sitting there drinking tea, enjoying nature, watching the birds and the squirrels.

Saturday
I love this Crepe Myrtle. It is right outside our bedroom window upstairs, and right outside Mom's apartment door below. She loved sitting out there with her cup of tea every day.
******
I walked out back to take a picture of the Crepe Myrtle (it is loaded and SO beautiful this year). Found Mama and little one back there headed into the woods.
Since we've had thunderstorms daily for the last three days, I am very happy to see the violets are coming back and the hostas are blooming. The tomatoes are taking forever to ripen!
Mama and little one.
Our tomato garden.
Hostas.
The violets are coming back!

Jake
Jake relaxing on the back porch earlier this evening. He wouldn't put that ball down. It was in his mouth for at least 1/2 hour.
Art Cards
I received Art Cards from 2 more group members.
Susanne Skene sent “The Blue Pug” (Adventures of Blue Dog) and “Time to Hunt” ( Aboriginal Art).
They are perfect, Susanne!!
Carol Weiler sent “Blue ‘Bird’ Dog” (Adventures of Blue Dog) and “Florida Influence” (Aboriginal Art).
Clever, Carol. I love the Starfish!

One Layer Away
At class end, I lost track of layers. There are at least 12 layers of just paint.
***************************************
I took Seth Apter's 2-hour ONE LAYER AWAY on-line class this afternoon. It was a fast 2-hours, but during his instruction, Seth stressed what a difference many many layers can make for a background.
These are just a few photos from finish to start.
One of Seth's favorite sayings: "You are only one layer away from magic."
And more layers.
More layers.
My start after 4 layers of paint.
St. Mary Magdalene
Today is the Feast Day of Saint Mary Magdalene.
She has always been a special saint to me because of my Mother's middle name ~

Vendor Night
Drove by the river on my way home from Vendor Night. It sure looked refreshing. A group of kids had the right idea of how to cool off on a very warm evening!
And, of course, I saw deer.

Daily Visits
Miss Deer has been coming to the yard every evening for the past week. She seems to have found something yummy to eat here. First photo is tonight, the others were yesterday and Thursday.
